The playroom offers children a safe space to express their feelings through play. The play therapy method that I use is essentially non-directive and child-centered. I allow a child to choose how they would like to spend the time, selecting the toys that they wish to use from a large range available.
I follow a child’s lead and pace in the playroom. If a child does not want to talk in the playroom, or play, that is accepted – it is their time and they can decide how they would like to spend the time!
As a child plays, I will reflect their feelings back to them, allowing them to process thoughts and feelings. The precise content of the sessions will remain confidential, however play themes and a report of the child’s progress will be discussed with parents at review meetings.
